Purvis expects Lords to back votes at 16

Scottish Liberal Democrat peer Jeremy Purvis said the findings of the House of Lord's Constitution Committee that moving ahead with reform in one part of the UK may herald a desire for wider reform is a good reason to progress with the legislation, not to delay it.

Commenting, Lord Jeremy Purvis said:

"The Constitution Committee’s finding that moving ahead with reform in one part of the UK may herald a desire for wider reform is a good reason to progress with the legislation, not to delay it.

"There is now cross party and wide support for votes at 16 for the Scottish Parliament. I fully expect to see this support echoed in the Lords. I am a passionate advocate for this and it is one of the reasons I joined the Liberal Democrats at 16.

"We believe in involving young people in politics and the major block of Lib Dems in the Lords are behind this progressive and reforming move, which will build a fairer society. Thursday will be a proud day when longstanding Scottish Liberal Democrat policy moves forward to the benefit of Scotland’s young people."
