Rod Ackland

About

Biography:

Rod has lived in the Strathkelvin area for over 30 years, and started his political career there standing for the Chryston & Kelvin Valley division of Strathclyde Region in 1982. A few months later, he was running the Lib/SDP Alliance HQ at the Coatbridge & Airdrie by-election, and a year later stood for the Alliance in Monklands West (now renamed as Coatbridge & Chryston) in the 1983 General Election. He has been active locally ever since, and was the Lib Dem representative at the Airdrie consultation meeting for the review that produced the new seats.

Rod was an organiser for the cross-party Campaign for Fair Votes in North Lanarkshire in the eighties, and hopes that this year's referendum will finally deliver a better voting system for Westminster elections.
