Mike Crockart

Mike Crockart
MP for Edinburgh West

185 St John’s Road
EH12 7SL

Phone:0131 339 0339

Mike was elected to represent the constituency of Edinburgh West in 2010 with a majority of 3,803. He lives in the constituency with his wife, Sarah, and two sons.

He was born and brought up in Perth, before moving to Edinburgh to study Politics at Edinburgh University in 1984. He first became involved in politics as a student and has supported and campaigned for the Liberal Democrats over many years, as well as standing in council, Holyrood and Westminster elections.

Mike began his career as a police officer in the Lothian and Borders force for eight years, during which he worked across all policing areas including as a scenes of crime officer. He then retrained and worked as a systems developer and then as an IT Project Manager for Standard Life for 11 years. However, he never lost his passion for politics and the desire to make a difference to the community in which he lived.

He believes that the best elected representatives are those who understand local issues and share many of the concerns constituents have.

In Parliament, as well as participating in debates, asking questions of Ministers and scrutinising legislation, he plays a number of formal roles. He’s a member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee as well as the Scottish Affairs Select Committee and he is a member of the Liberal Democrats’ Policy Committees on Justice, Home Affairs and Equalities and Transport. He also co-chairs his party's Committee for Energy and Climate Change. He’s working towards being a Fellow of the Industry and Parliament Trust, which gives him valuable insights into the workings of industry and the financial sector.

Mike’s key interests are business and energy and climate change. He is running a campaign to bring nuisance calls to an end and is Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Nuisance Calls. He has a Private Member’s Bill on the issue of nuisance calls which is due for its second reading later in the 2013-14 session.
