John Barnett

John Barnett

About

Biography:

John has been an active member of the Liberal Democrats since school and has been a campaigner and office bearer in London and Scotland.

With a particular interest in policy development, he has served on the Federal Party's 'Meeting Challenge Group' and as a member of the Steel Commission on 'Moving Towards Federalism' whose Report proposed a workable and sustainable blueprint for Scottish Home Rule within a modernised federal United Kingdom. His particular interests are in the fields of education, international relations, public finance and human rights.

Having graduated in law from the University of Dundee and maintaining a close relationship with the city all his life, he understands the problems and the opportunities of the people of Dundee West. Working with the two Liberal Democrat councillors in the constituency, John offers a radical alternative to the approach of Labour and the SNP whose inertia in addressing the real issues of concerns of local people he intends to challenge.

A strong supporter of the project to bring the V&A to Dundee, John believes that serious investment in the transport infrastructure will be needed to support the forecast numbers of annual visitors to the city.
