About us

Organisation

The Scottish Liberal Democrats, together with our Welsh and English colleagues, are part of the federation that is the UK Liberal Democrats. We also maintain close links with our colleagues in Europe.

All members have an equal vote to elect not just our Leader and Deputy Leader but also the Convenors of the main party committees - Executive, Policy, Campaigns, Conference and Business.

Locally we are organised into Regional and Local Parties.

Liberal Youth
The youth and student wing of the Liberal Democrats is called Liberal Youth, and they represent the interests of all Liberal Democrat members aged 26 and under, and everyone registered as a student. Liberal Youth Scotland have their own website at www.liberalyouthscotland.org.uk.

Policy and values

Our values can be summarised by the Preamble to our Constitution which starts:

"The Scottish Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."

The Party meets twice each year at Conference to determine policy and the Policy Committee then formulates our Manifesto. The Policy Committee will also commission Policy Papers and other reports and present these to Conference for approval.
