Commenting on homelessness statistics published today which show
Jim Humehomelessness applications are declining, Scottish Liberal Democrat housing spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:
"These figures make clear that tackling homelessness across Scotland is a two-edged sword unless the Scottish Government builds more homes for social rent. As further councils successfully prioritise homelessness applications, the influx of people in need of permanent social housing has caused a logjam.
"I'm concerned that the wider causes of homelessness, such as a lack of stability in the home, will not be tackled effectively if thousands of households are left to languish in temporary accommodation. If the SNP government is to meaningfully reduce the plight of homelessness it must support local authorities and housing associations by building more homes for social rent."
