Euro lunatics have taken over the Brussels asylum

An internal feud within the EU could hit Scottish fishermen as the annual EU Fisheries Council looms. The negotiations cover the amount of fish and time at sea that Scottish boats are allowed.

Shetland MSP Tavish Scott today raised the importance of increased quotas for Scottish boats during a Parliamentary statement from Fisheries Secretary Richard Lochhead. Tavish Scott also said the Scottish Government must stop a ruinous EU proposal that would mean Scottish fishing boats could only go to sea for 75 days in 2013.

Commenting, Scottish Liberal Democrat fisheries spokesperson Tavish Scott said:

“The European lunatics have taken over the Brussels asylum. Scottish fishermen need more days at sea to catch their quotas. Yet an internal Euro row could achieve the opposite. This is all about internal European institutional politics and not the livelihood of our fishermen and all the shore side jobs that opened on the catch. Europe is not fit to run a whelk store far less be responsible for sustainable fisheries management.

“Scottish fishermen need the UK and Scottish Governments to work closely together to sort out this mess. It is a mess totally of Brussels making.”
