SNP allowed failed NHS Chief Executive to retire quietly

Commenting on the former Chief Executive of NHS Lothian’s retirement package, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

“The SNP government had the opportunity to hold Professor Barbour to account when the waiting times scandal emerged. Instead, they allowed him to retire quietly and conveniently. It is through their own actions that they are now powerless due to contractual obligations.

“Only this week we heard of police officers retiring in order to avoid disciplinary proceedings. The Scottish Government must make it clear that it operates on the side of the people of Scotland. Appropriate action should be taken when it’s due and not as an afterthought."
