As the former head of the British Army calls for a full discussion about the potential future of Scotland`s armed forces before a referendum on independence, Sir Menzies Campbell has called on the SNP to come clean on the defence implications of independence.
Sir Menzies Campbell MPGeneral Lord Dannatt told The Telegraph newspaper that Alex Salmond needs to be more open and transparent about what the defence capabilites of an independent Scotland would be.
Commenting, Sir Menzies said:
"The chickens are coming home to roost for the SNP.
"Sooner or later they will have to come clean on how many aircraft, ships and regiments there would be in an 'independent' Scotland; why they want to leave NATO, the most successful defence alliance in history and the saviour of the people of Libya; how much they would spend on defence and the economic impact on the defence industry and the number of jobs that would be lost in Scotland."
