Lib Dems tour Craigie’s farm in Edinburgh Western

Liberal Democrat candidate for Edinburgh Western Margaret Smith joined sitting MP Mike Crockart on a visit to Craigie’s Farm in the constituency.

The Liberal Democrats toured the West Craigie Local Food Project, a project that works with those on community sentences and offenders from local prisons to rehabilitate offenders, pay back communities and provide them with useful skills.

Commenting, Mrs Smith said:

“Craigie’s Farm is a fantastic local business. I want to see more local businesses like this getting real support from the next government so that they can continue to grow. Liberal Democrats would introduce Regional Development Banks that would get money to businesses like this.

“The local food project is an innovative branch of this business. It helps offenders pay back their communities, but also provides them with skills and helps them reintegrate back into society. That’s the kind of justice plan that will help cut re-offending, not the soundbite and fury approach of Labour and the Tories.”
