Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross Jamie Stone has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that Scrabster Harbour in Thurso will receive £2.2m for redevelopment.

With the proper resources, Scrabster Harbour will become a leader in the sustainable marine renewable energy industry and an economic pillar for the North of Scotland.”

“Investment in the redevelopment of Scrabster Harbour is an investment in our future—the future of renewable energy and the future of Scotland. The marine renewable energy industry offers the Far North an optimistic future for economic vitality post-Dounreay.”

“Scrabster Harbour possesses significant unlocked potential. The location of Scrabster Harbour at the entrance of the Pentland Firth provides unique access to the most concentrated tidal resources on earth. The proposed improvements to Scrabster Harbour are necessary to make the harbour a viable location for the marine renewable industry to access these resources.”
