Alan Reid MP welcomed today’s announcement that the Scottish Government have restored the £2.5 million grant that they had tried to take away from Argyll & Bute Council.
Mr Reid said;
“I am very pleased that the campaign mounted by myself and the Council’s ruling Independent/Liberal Democrat/Conservative coalition to get back the £2.5 million the SNP Government wanted to take away from the Council has been successful. This shows that if we all work together, Argyll & Bute benefits. I am, however, disappointed that this grant has only been restored for this year, and that, if the SNP win the May election, they plan to take it away next year. I will keep up the campaign to have this grant restored to the Council on a permanent basis.”
Notes:
The SNP Government originally announced that Argyll & Bute Council’s grant would be cut by £5.6 million, the biggest cut in Scotland. Following a campaign by Alan Reid MP and the Council, the grant cut was reduced to £4.3 million. Today’s announcement reduces the cut to £1.8 million which is the Scottish average cut for 2011/12.
