Jim Hume MSP says April fuel duty increase should be deferred

Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has today said that he believes hard pressed drivers would greatly benefit from the deferral of the April fuel duty increase.

Speaking in this evening’s debate in the Scottish Parliament, Jim Hume said:

“The soaring price of fuel hits hardest those in remote and rural communities, where cars are a necessity not a luxury.

“People throughout the South of Scotland are rightly concerned by the rising cost of fuel and we must be, too.

“That’s why I welcome the UK Government’s exploration of how it can assist remote communities, and why I would also support the deferring of the fuel duty increase in April.

The MSP continued:

“Labour cannot rewrite history. They did nothing to tackle rising fuel prices in 13 years. And it’s Labour’s duty increase that now needs to be reversed”.
