Bruce welcomes Fairtrade fortnight

Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce has welcomed Fairtrade Fortnight and has encouraged constituents to get involved and ‘Show Off Their Label’.

To help raise awareness of Fairtrade Fortnight, the local MP visited the The Co-operative Food store in Kintore, a business that has stocked Fairtrade products for almost two decades.

This year’s event runs from 28th February to 13th March and is encouraging people to ‘Show Off Your Label’ by buying, using or wearing Fairtrade products.

Commenting after the visit, Malcolm Bruce MP said:

“When the Fairtrade movement was first launched, there was just a single Fairtrade chocolate bar on the shop shelves. Today, by choosing to buy any of the thousands of Fairtrade products that are available you can help secure a future for millions of people in the developing world.

“In my role as Chair of the International Development Committee, I have seen first hand how Fairtrade can benefit communities in the developing world, ensuring that producers receive a guaranteed price for their goods in return for maintaining environmental and employment standards.

“Communities across Gordon have long been supportive of this movement, with Inverurie, Ellon, Mid-Formartine, Huntly and Aberdeen all boasting Fairtrade status. It has never been easier to buy Fairtrade and there are events going on up and down the country to mark Fairtrade Fortnight. It is important that we recognise and support the valuable work that this organisation does”.
