Police merger could damage local bobbies on the beat.

John Sleigh, Lib Dem candidate for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine,
today revealed that there are fewer bobbies on the beat per head in
Grampian than in Strathclyde.

“I am worried that if the SNP Government gets its way and merges all of
Scotland’s forces, the North-east will lose out. We could have fewer
police officers here in Grampian. That would be a criminals’ charter.”

“There are 353 people for every police officer and in Strathclyde there
are only 264 people for every police officer.”

The figures come from a parliamentary question to the Justice Minister.

John Sleigh added:

“I have serious concern that if we have a single authority, probably based in Glasgow, that the situation would get worse.

“It could mean our police force losing dozens of officers to the central belt.”
