MP will keep up the pressure to roll out fairer fuel pilot as fuel prices rise in the North

As fuel prices rise in the North, local MP John Thurso will keep up the pressure on the Treasury to get the fairer fuel pilot scheme, announced in October for the Islands, in place as quickly as possible.

John Thurso, who has been campaigning for fairer fuel prices in remote and rural areas throughout his political career, said:

"I will keep the pressure on the Treasury to put the pilot scheme in place as soon as possible. Clearly I would have liked it to have covered all of the Highlands, but if we get it started in the islands we can then roll it out to other areas."

"The cost of fuel is one of the biggest burdens. For so many constituents there is little or no public transport available and our area already bears an unfair premium for fuel. This scheme will go some way towards tackling the problem."
