Liberal Democrats have rebuffed reports that Alex Salmond could resign if the Scottish Budget is not passed, triggering an early election.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Mike Rumbles said:
“If after two attempts the SNP’s Budget fails and Mr. Salmond resigns, the Parliament has 28 days to find a new First Minister.
“This would take us past the planned dissolution date of the 22nd March. There is no way there could be an early election after voting on the Budget.”
