Campbell invites Armed Forces Minister to RAF Leuchars

North East Fife MP Sir Menzies Campbell has issued an invitation to the Armed Forces Minister to visit RAF Leuchars to see for himself the "essential role currently played by RAF Leuchars in the air defence of the United Kingdom".

Sir Menzies wrote to Nick Harvey MP today to suggest the visit which the Minister may find "helpful and informative".

Sir Menzies and MSP Iain Smith have already had meetings at the Ministry of Defence with the Secretary of State for Defence and the Armed Forces Minister about the future of RAF Leuchars and last week hosted the visit by Scottish Secretary Michael Moore to Leuchars for a tour of the base and a meeting with local community figures.

In his invitation Sir Menzies said:

"I see from press reports that you were able to visit Lossiemouth and Kinloss last week. I’m certain that you would find a similar visit to RAF Leuchars to be helpful and informative.

"May I, therefore, invite you to visit North East Fife with a view to hearing at first hand representatives of the local community and familiarise yourself on the ground with the essential role currently played by RAF Leuchars in the air defence of the United Kingdom."
