Commenting on NUS report into student hardship, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:
“These figures are worrying, but no surprise.
“The vast majority of Scottish students worry about their finances and of those who manage to find part time employment many are working long hours.
“This is not good for their studies and will not inspire young people to further their education.
“Liberal Democrats have long advocated progress towards a minimum income guarantee for students. That’s why we supported increases in access to support last year.
“In having to face up to the reality of Labour’s economic mismanagement the Scottish Government must also face up to the serious consequences of the financial hardship students are struggling with.”
