Purvis condemns SNP arrogance about business rates

Commenting as the Enterprise Minister welcomes figures about rates relief for small businesses as part of the Cabinet summer tour, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis said:

“Last year’s summer tour cost the Scottish taxpayer over £80,000 and six of the hotels hosting cabinet members were subsequently hit by significant increases in their business rates. That’s quite a legacy from an SNP summer tour.

“It’s pure arrogance from the SNP to deny the concerns from Chambers of Commerce across the country, the CBI, FSB, British Hospitality Association and countless small business owners about soaring rates bills.

“Instead of self congratulatory press releases about the small business bonus scheme, the Enterprise Minister should listen to those in the business community who have been hit by crippling increases in their rates bills. He should respond to our campaign for a transitional rates relief scheme.”
