Alcohol commission likely to gather dust on the shelves

Commenting on the publication of Scottish Labour’s Alcohol Commission, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesman Robert Brown said:

“There is very little new or innovative in Labour's Alcohol Commission Report - and the Liberal Democrat-Conservative Coalition in London is already looking at the main proposal of an alcohol price floor. Labour had 13 years in power in London to sort out our alcohol problem. I think their Commission report is highly likely to gather dust on the shelves.

“The tax system can be used to make retailers sell alcohol at responsible prices - and it has the advantage of the revenue going to the Government, not to the alcohol industry. Appropriate taxation is a better solution than the rather arbitrary responsibility levy proposed by Labour.”
