Euan Robson has been formally selected as the candidate.

Selkirk is currently part of Mr Purvis’ Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale seat, but under boundary changes will become part of the expanded, new Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire seat.

Mr Robson said:

"I look forward to campaigning on the key issues of the local economy and jobs together with improving transport links and Borders education and health provision.

"Liberal Democrats made huge gains for the Borders when in government including measures to help businesses like the rate relief scheme and over £100 million invested in road links.

"I will be focussing on developing economic opportunity, the next generation of road and rail projects, improving our education system and health issues such as dentistry provision.

"All of these have taken a back seat in the last three years whilst the Tory representative for the area unsuccessfully tried to get elected to Westminster.

"My aim is to concentrate the Scottish Parliament's and the Scottish Government's attention on Borderers' concerns."

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

"Euan Robson is a strong local candidate for this new seat. Working with Michael Moore and Jeremy Purvis, he will be part of the strongest possible Borders team, putting local constituents first.

"I look forward to many campaigning days with them all."

Mr Moore added:

"Euan is a hard worker, with a proven track record in winning developments for constituents in this area.

"The Borders will see a very vigorous campaign to get him elected."

Mr Purvis finished:

"It is an enormous privilege to represent Selkirk and the Valleys in the Scottish Parliament and I will miss this hugely. Euan will be a very close colleague in the Parliament and the Borders will benefit from a strong team.

"I am delighted that Euan has been selected and we will be focusing on the real issues of concern to people."
