Liberal Democrat candidate for Gordon, Malcolm Bruce has called on both the UK and the Scottish Governments to address the very real risk faced by the north east Oil and Gas Industry if investment in the area does not continue.
A survey carried out by the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce has highlighted significant problems faced by those working in the industry in the north east.
Commenting he said:
“This report again highlights how concerned those in the oil and gas industry in the north east are feeling about the present climate.
“The oil and gas industry has entered its mature phase in the area and still needs significant investment to make sure all is garnered.
“The north east has led the way in subsea technology with £5 billion invested in this technology.
"To make the most of this new and dynamic technology, the area must continue to be fit for purpose for the oil and gas industries.
"With further delays to the development of the Aberdeen bypass, we must ensure that this does not have a detrimental impact on continued investment in these industries in the north east.
“The Scottish and UK Government must ensure that they heed this warning and keep encouraging the oil and gas industries continued investment or there is a very real danger that investors will go elsewhere, affecting over half a million jobs in the UK.
