Commenting on the news that Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP is to host a public meting in Morningside, Fred Mackintosh, prospective Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh South said;

"This is just further proof that the Conservatives haven't changed. Mr Rifkind is the same Conservative MP that was defeated in Morningside as part of John Major's failing Government in 1997, when the Conservatives failed to return a single MP in Scotland!

"When voters in Edinburgh South say they want real change they don't mean a return to a failing Government of more than a decade ago, they mean genuine reform of our political system, fairer taxes, and a rejuvenated environmentally sustainable economy.

"The Conservative candidate might no longer be Malcolm Rifkind but they haven't changed."
