Kennedy slams Labour, calls for fairer taxes

Former Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy has slammed Labour’s unfair tax system and called for the abolition of income tax on the first £10,000 of earnings.

Charles Kennedy was joining Liberal Democrat candidate John Sleigh on the campaign trail at an ASDA superstore in the marginal constituency of Aberdeen South.

Charles Kennedy said:

“Under Labour, millionaire businessmen still pay a lower rate of tax on their capital gains than their cleaners pay on their wages.

“That is a crying shame.

“Scots are entitled to fair taxes.

“The Liberal Democrats will abolish income tax on your first £10,000 in earnings, taking £700 off the tax bill of low and middle income earners.

“Here in Aberdeen South that’s eleven days worth of the average salary straight back in your pocket.”

John Sleigh added:

“People in Aberdeen South don’t just want change, they need change.

“There are 615 people – local people – working here in ASDA.

“These are hard-working men and women who deserve a fair deal on their tax bill.

“Our £700 income tax cut will give them just that.

“Liberal Democrats are fighting for fairer taxes and a fairer future in this seat.”
