Tavish Scott
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP challenged the First Minister to say when he thought unemployment in Scotland would start to fall.
Figures released this week show that 67,000 more people are out of work in Scotland this year than last year. Unemployment has increased twice as fast as the rest of the UK.
Commenting after First Minister’s Questions, Mr Scott said:
“The First Minister couldn’t say when he thought unemployment in Scotland will start to fall, choosing instead to play the blame game with Westminster.
“Vince Cable made it clear to the First Minister that a Liberal Democrat Government would bring more money to Scotland, not less. Now it’s Alex Salmond’s turn to answer questions.
“In his letter to Vince Cable he said that in Scotland we must “prepare for several years of fiscal austerity”. He couldn’t tell me today what he’s going to do about it.”[
