Capital spending on education has slowed: Lib Dems

The Scottish Government’s capital spending on primary and secondary education has slowed significantly in recent years. From a yearly spending increase of 52% in 2005-06, the increase in spending slowed to just 4% in 2008-09.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Education spokesman Margaret Smith said:

“This shows that for all the SNP’s bombast on education and school building, capital spending has slowed significantly.

“They haven’t built a single school and probably won’t in their time in Government.

“The chaotic Scottish Futures Trust has done nothing since its creation.

“They have let pupils down and at a time when the Scottish construction industry is crying out for work this Government have let them down too.”
