Asylum system lacks humanity and efficiency

Commenting after visiting two asylum projects in Glasgow North East, Liberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Secretary Alistair Carmichael MP said: "The asylum system lacks humanity and is woefully inefficient.

"Scotland has a proud history of sending people around the world and receiving others with open arms.

"We need an asylum system which Scottish people can be proud of, not one which is at source an embarrassment."

Glasgow North East by-election candidate Eileen Baxendale added:

"I have been involved with projects like this for many years.

"They provide a vital service for communities by keeping their culture alive.

"Asylum seekers want to make their lives here in Scotland. But the Labour Government has failed to deliver an efficient asylum system which would help them."

Alistair Carmichael MP and Eileen Baxendale visited the Scotland Alevi Bektasi Association in Dennistoun and the St. Rollox Church of Scotland in Springburn.
