Scotland's economy is still feeling Labour's recession

Commenting on GDP figures released today, showing a contraction in Scotland’s economy for the fourth successive quarter, Liberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Secretary Alistair Carmichael said:

"These figures show that Scotland’s economy is still feeling Labour’s recession.Alistair Carmichael MPAlistair Carmichael MP

“There is a continuing worry for Scots who have lost their job or fear that this is going to happen.

“The poor performance of Scottish manufacturing is particularly worrying.

“These are the jobs we most need and they are most at risk.

“Labour’s pointless VAT cut cost over £31m a day. Alex Salmond should be regretting his support for this cut that has done nothing to help the economy.

“Instead of this wasteful move, we would have started public transport projects and insulated every school and hospital.

“We would have helped the construction industry which needs it most and left a lasting legacy for Scotland and the UK.”
