Borders MP Michael Moore has welcomed moves by councillors at the SBC to bid for 50% funding towards the replacement of Duns Primary School as part of the Scottish Government’s first phase of its primary school funding programme.
Mr Moore has visited teachers and pupils at the school in the past and welcomed the findings of a recent School Inspectors report which showed that significant improvements in teaching standards have been made since 2007.
The proposals are set to be discussed at council later this afternoon.
Commenting, Mr Moore said:
‘After the recent positive report from the Schools Inspector, this funding application is more good news for children and staff at Duns Primary.
‘With the school roll expected to grow significantly over the next 5 years, improving capacity and facilities will be vital in maintaining the improvements in standards that have been made since 2007.
‘I am certain that the proposed relocation to the former Duns High School would allow staff to continue their good work and help create an atmosphere in which pupils would thrive.’
