Commenting on the news that a firm in India has been given a contract to translate the Scottish Parliament's annual report into Gaelic, Liberal Democrat Gaelic spokesperson John Farquhar Munro MSP said:
"It is right that this report should be translated into Gaelic. But, it simply doesn't make sense to use a middle-man in India to locate a translator based on the Western Isles and employ them at a lower rate.
"The Scottish Parliament should be doing everything it can to support the Gaelic language at home in Scotland directly, not contracting out translation work to the other side of the world."
