Finnie praises progress of James Watt College

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has praised the progress of James Watt College.

In a report published by the HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) James Watt College was praised for its redesigned curriculum to be more accessible and inclusive, measures to improve retention and attainment and the preparation for learners progressing to employment or further study was also praised in the report.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

“I am very pleased by the progress made by James Watt College especially considering the financial problems the college has faced in the last few years.

“The progress is very encouraging and credit must go to the Sue Pinder, the Unions and the college staff who have worked tirelessly to restructure the college and improve teaching standards and support to students, which is shown in the improvements in retention and attainment at the college.

“The report on James Watt College is very encouraging and if the college continues to improve and tackled the main points for action identified in the HMIE report I have no doubt James Watt College can become one of the best colleges in Scotland.”
