SNP can't be trusted on European promises - Purvis

Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis has accused the SNP of being all over the place on their key European election pledge to create 20,00 new jobs in Scotland.

During a debate in the Scottish Parliament today (Thursday) Mr Purvis challenged the Enterprise Minister to explain the source of the 20,000 jobs promised in the party's European election leaflet.

In his reply the Minister seemed to know nothing about the pledge saying only that 'That might well be a localised leaflet…'.

Commenting, Mr Purvis said:

"The SNP's national European election leaflet promises that their Recovery Plan will create 20,000 new jobs. When pressed on the source of these jobs, however, the Minister didn't know anything about the leaflet or this pledge.

"It is hardly confidence inspiring that the party's own Enterprise Minister doesn't know about one of their key European manifesto promises.

"This shows that the SNP can't be trusted on their European promises anymore than they can on class sizes, student debt, climate change or council tax."

Ends.
