Campbell questions Scottish Secretary over ineffective VAT cut

Liberal Democrat MP for North East Fife Sir Menzies Campbell today challenged Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy at Scottish Questions in the House of Commons over the temporary cut in VAT.

“The one thing which is quite clear is that the temporary VAT has had no visible effect. Scotland would have benefited socially, economically and environmentally if the money had been spent on
home insulation, the replacement of inadequate schools and building council houses.

“In Fife, pensioners could well do with home insulation to cut their heating bills, pupils could have had the advantage of earlier replacement of inadequate schools, and families on the housing
waiting list could have enjoyed a proper home.

“I shall go on raising these issues in Parliament whenever I can.”
