Commenting on the news that the Labour administration on Glasgow City
Council has voted to press ahead with the closure of up to 20 primary and nurseries across the city, Liberal Democrat MSP for Glasgow Robert Brown said:
"This is a real disappointment for parents and children in these
communities who have been badly let down by the Labour administration in Glasgow. Liberal Democrats have led the campaign to keep these schools open.
"The council's short-sightedness has lost the opportunity to develop an
innovative joint campus community in Wyndford and Cadder. This would have been a sustainable model for the future.
"The focus must now shift to Holyrood and the SNP Government. Ministers
must now take responsibility and provide a funding stream for the SFT in
order to keep these schools open.
"I am writing to the First Minister urging him to meet with local parents
and the city council to discuss these issues."
Liberal Democrat PPC for Glasgow North Katy Gordon added:
"Having worked so closely with these parents, fighting to save these
schools, it is no wonder that they feel let down by the Labour council.
"Despite receiving thousands of consultation responses opposing these
closures, the Labour council has completely ignored the will of Glasgow people."
Ends.
