Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, welcomed the Crown Estate decision to grant permission to energy companies to survey ten sites around the Scottish coast to assess their suitability for off-shore wind farms.

Mr Reid said, “Off-shore wind farms on this scale would generate a tremendous amount of green electricity. They also afford an excellent opportunity for the Machrihanish factory to win the contracts to build the towers. I hope that this news will help to clinch the deal required to save the factory.”
