Scott demands more details about Scottish Inter Faith Council funding

Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland has written to the First Minister demanding he clarify what he meant when he blithely assured MSPs in the Scottish Parliament today that the funding crisis at the Scottish Inter Faith Council has been “resolved”.

Mr Scott revealed that all eligible staff at Interfaith Scotland had been handed redundancy notices before Christmas as “despite every reasonable attempt made by the SIFC Executive Committee…. core grant funding from Scottish Government beyond 16 January 2009 has not yet managed to be secured.”

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

“The First Minister used the word “resolved” in the Chamber.

“He needs to confirm that none of the redundancy notices issued by the SIFC will be enforced. He must also explain the delays in agreeing the funding.

“I am seeking the immediate publication of the notice sent to the Scottish Inter Faith Council to advise them of the funding from the Government.”
