Responding to the news, Charles Kennedy said:
“I am shocked and deeply sorry to learn of this news, which comes just as the community on Raasay was looking forward to reopening the refurbished building. Both as a historic house, and – through the Outdoor Centre – as an important part of the island’s economy, Raasay House has been a huge asset and the refurbishment offered to add even more to its potential.
“I am grateful that there were no injuries – or worse – in what was clearly a major fire.
“On what must have been a very difficult day for all who have invested so much of themselves in this project, the community has expressed its determination to look to the future. I will work in any way that I can with them to make sure that the story of Raasay House does not end here.”
