Commenting on proposals put forward by Reform Scotland that parents from poor backgrounds should be given a credit of up to £10,000 to allow them to send their children to better schools, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith said:
Margaret Smith MSP“Liberal Democrats are committed to improving social mobility and increasing the life chances of children from the poorest backgrounds.
“I am concerned, however, that this scheme would create an unnecessary amount of confusing bureaucracy and do little to improve schools in deprived areas.
"What we want to see is an education system which gives every local authority the ability to help every child from the poorest background achieve their highest potential."
