Twin track approach is key to keep drugs strategy on rails - Finnie

Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has today called on the Scottish Government to deliver a truly comprehensive strategy to tackle drug misuse in Scotland.

As the Scottish Government discussed the delivery of the national drugs strategy, Mr Finnie made it clear that only the Liberal Democrat's proposed duel approach of prevention and treatment has any chance of weaning Scotland off drugs.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

"A twin track approach is vital if we are to rid Scotland of the scourge of drug addiction.

"We must, as far as possible, cut demand by prevention through prosecution of drug pushers who prey on the vulnerable in society.

"It is also just as important, however, to treat drug addiction as the disease it is. There needs to be a proper support structure in place so that rehabilitation can offer a path back to a full and fulfilling role in society."
