Commenting on the announcement that Single Farm Payments will be made by Monday 1 December, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Liam McArthur said:

“Although I welcome this news, there are still real pressures on the farming community and levels of debt amongst farmers are worryingly high.

“Ministers can take action to support farmers by bringing forward LFASS payments. Liberal Democrats secured a Parliamentary majority in favour of this move. The Rural Affairs Secretary and his officials must now use the meeting with the NFU LFA Committee to work out how best to achieve this.”
