Purvis blasts SNP / Tory pact to protect Government Budget

Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis has blasted the SNP’s ‘business as usual’ Budget.

The Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee has published its report into the Scottish Government’s Budget today.

Mr Purvis revealed that Liberal Democrat attempts to expose the lack of a ‘Plan B’ to tackle the economic crisis from the Scottish Government were defeated by the vote of Tory Finance Committee Member, Derek Brownlee.

Commenting, Mr Purvis said:

“It is deeply regrettable that the SNP budget in the worst economic climate in a generation is a ‘business as usual’ Budget propped up by the Tories. The SNP’s Budget has changed by less than 1 per cent from the version they published this time last year.

“It is extremely disappointing that Liberal Democrat attempts to expose the Government’s lack of a ‘Plan B’ were defeated by the Scottish Conservatives.

“Yesterday, in London, Conservatives called for an election because Labour had been too feeble in response to the economic crisis.

“Yet in Scotland, the Conservatives have stood up and voted with the SNP on their Budget. As a result of their pact with the SNP, it’s a ‘business as usual’ Budget when Scotland needs radical action.”
