Responding to the First Minister’s comments about the safety of Scottish pork following the scare in Ireland, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Liam Mr McArthur said: “There is a general consensus that EU food labelling rules need to be tightened up.

“Scottish and UK Ministers need to work cooperatively with EU partners in making the case for change. Clearer labelling is the key to giving consumers confidence in the food they buy.Liam McArthur MSP

“In the meantime, Scottish Ministers should be engaging with supermarkets and food processing businesses in this country to see what more can be done on a voluntary basis to improve traceability and increase consumer confidence.”
