Lib Dems oppose lead developer model for housing

Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson Ross Finnie has challenged the SNP Government’s proposal to give lead developers “a significant share” of government subsidy to meet housing demands.

The lead developer model is a system of centralising all house building within a designated geographical area.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

“I have serious reservations about the lead developer model being the most appropriate way of providing more affordable housing in Scotland.

“At the recent Liberal Democrat Housing Summit, industry representatives specifically stated that the lead developer model was not their preferred option for housing development.

“It does not seem sensible to loose the local expertise of Housing Associations and replace it with the construction views of a lead developer. Liberal Democrats strongly oppose these proposals.”
