UK Government must give competition a chance

Commenting on reports that a foreign bank is interested in buying HBOS and has approached the UK Government, Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland said:

“The UK Government must give a fair wind to any other interested party providing a credible financial alternative that will keep competition in the banking market place.

“Liberal Democrats will be looking for these assurances next week. My colleague John Thurso MP will be questioning the Chancellor at the Treasury Select Committee on Monday and Alistair Carmichael will be questioning Ministers in the House of Commons following the statement about the Office of Fair Trading report published yesterday.”
