Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP has exposed that out of thirty-five capital projects that the Scottish Government is claiming to have introduced only two are new since the SNP took office.
The Government is claiming credit for commissioning 35 capital projects. But, in answers to Parliamentary Questions lodged by the Liberal Democrats, the Government’s own figures contradict this and reveal that only Grampian Prison and the Southern General Hospital were really commissioned by the SNP. Neither of these projects have had contracts awarded, no detailed plans are in place and the Grampian prison doesn't even have planning permission.
Commenting, Mr Purvis said:
"Today, Liberal Democrats have exposed that out of thirty five projects the Government is claiming as its own, only two are new since the SNP took office. 95 per cent were put in place by the Labour and the Lib Dems before last year's election.
"This is a cast iron confirmation from the Government's own official answers that the SNP has misled not only the Parliament but also the people of Scotland.
"It is now crystal clear that investment in our much-needed schools, roads and public transport is grinding to a halt.
"Under the Liberal Democrats and Labour we saw record investment in infrastructure. Now we know for certain that this has dried up.
"People are sick of spin from Alex Salmond's Government. Today the SNP has been found out."
