Parliament sends strong message on HBOS to UK Government

The Scottish Parliament has today sent a strong message to the UK Government calling for HBOS to remain an independent bank.

A majority of MSPs voted in favour of the Liberal Democrat motion this afternoon.

Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland led the debate this morning.

Commenting after Decision Time, Mr Scott said:

“I am delighted that the Scottish Parliament has thrown its weight behind the Liberal Democrat campaign to save HBOS as an independent Scottish bank.

“Jobs, local branches and Scotland’s reputation as a centre of financial excellence are at stake. The UK Government must now sit up and listen to the will of Parliament. Ministers must step in and use the taxpayers’ billions to secure the long term future of HBOS and the Scottish financial industry.”
