Lib Dem tax plan would stimulate Scottish economy

Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP has called on the Scottish Government to back Liberal Democrat plans for a cut in Income Tax to create a fiscal stimulus for the economy.

Mr Purvis met this morning with the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) where his proposals to cut taxes and boost the Scottish economy were discussed.

Commenting after a Scottish Parliament debate on the Economy, Mr Purvis said:

“I am deeply concerned by the Scottish Government’s lack of decisive action in response to the current economic downturn. There is growing consensus across all parties that tax cuts are a positive and effective way to energise the economy.

“Liberal Democrat proposals to cut Income Tax by 2p would put more than £300 per year back into the pocket of the average Scottish earner and provide a significant fiscal stimulus to the economy."
