Scott demands lottery legacy money

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott has backed calls by sportscotland for lottery money to be invested in legacy projects for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

A spokeswoman for sportscotland is quoted in a Sunday newspaper as saying that as we get closer to the 2012 and 2014 Games increased investment will be required.

Commenting, Tavish Scott said:

“There is absolutely no doubt that the Olympics coming to London, the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow and the success of Chris Hoy and our Olympic team this summer will all contribute to higher levels of participation in sport by young people.

“It would be nothing short of a tragedy if having awakened an interest in sport amongst our young people we did not have the facilities and coaches required to allow them to get involved.

“Investing lottery cash in legacy projects in Scotland is not only the right thing to do but crucially important. That is why I will be raising this issue with UK Government ministers at the first opportunity I get.”
