Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP has demanded Ministers publish a detailed and costed investment plan for funding major public projects, like the school building programme.

Education officials have said they cannot upgrade crumbling school sports facilities until the buildings themselves have been improved. The school building programme is to be funded by the Scottish Futures Trust.

Commenting, Mr Purvis said:

“Councils are desperate to know what the Government’s funding plans are, but they have been met with blank looks from Education Ministers.

“Scottish Ministers must publish a detailed and costed investment plan, as requested by Audit Scotland, to ensure that councils have certainty and are able to plan investment in sports facilities and our school estate.

“The success of Team GB should have been met with a clear investment plan as to how the Scottish Government intends to ensure we have proper sports facilities for our young people, rather than more spin.

“Hop, spin and jump is not yet an Olympic sport, but if it was, the SNP would be sure of an Olympic medal.”
